As Apple’s wonder toy - the iPhone – becomes increasingly popular, so do the number of ways in which to waste our precious time on the machine. I decided I’d look into downloading some iPhone games yesterday, and I found a surprising array of choice.

The first thing that stuck me was the price of the some of the premium games. They can get expensive. The next thing that struck me was the sheer wealth and variety of games that are available to play through the iPhone’s games browser. These browser-based iPhone games are more simple than the downloadable variety as their performance is limited by lack of resources and by the browser in which they are being played. They are, though, everyone’s favorite price.

Somewhere in the middle are the non-premium downloadable iPhone games. Some are available for free but the best selection is available through a number of membership sites that have popped up. These sites offer unlimited downloads of iPhone games for a simple monthly or upfront fee. I made the mistake of diving into the first one of these I found for a modest $20/month fee but the variety of iPhone games available wasn’t worth half that. I cut my losses and found another, slightly pricier, option which proved much better value for money.

The moral of this story? Shop around, like you would for everything else.
